Belay Weekend - Sat Apr 1

The first day out in the wilderness. Well, Rattlesnake Rocks in the Blue Hills is a good substitute for now. Students eagerly awaiting to start the class and see what this is all about. Will they all get stung by the climbing bug?

On the program were basics skills like belaying, developing trust in the system, practising falling, coiling ropes and setting up anchors. These are all fundamental skills that will be very useful in the coming days of the class.

Sue Whitney and Pete Fleurant were in charge of this beautiful and sunny weekend.

People gather by the Shea Memorial ice rink on the way to Rattlesnake Rocks. Most students don't really know what to expect.
Last minute gear, in case you missing a harness, shoes or helmet. Akiko conveniently avoided the camera while Martin is figuiring out the forms.
On top of the cliff, the group is going through the group gear. Hopefully we got all the necessary gear for the day.
Anna and Ed inspecting a SRENE anchor set up by Karla. Erin, worried in the back, not quite sure this will work.
Austin on his first climb of the day. His fellow student happily belaying from the top.
Erin and Dave looking for the climber. Hey, Julie is below you! However she is not sure what is going on either...
Karla belaying Brian from the bottom with Ed as backup.
Ed demonstrating the trust in the system, comfortably tying his shoes on the way up.
At the end of the day, Ed signing the little green book each student is carrying. Not sure how much bribery is involved here.
Afternoons are usually reserved for casual climbing, students as well as instructors.
